Question: We have over 100 attorneys, but we anticipated possibly using a subset of our lawyers for the treatment group and a set of attorneys not associated with our office (trained and approved by our Presiding Judge's Office) as a control group. Would this type of arrangement be workable?

Answer: We need to be able to randomly assign attorneys into the intervention and control groups, so no that is not a workable proposal. There may be other factors affecting the attorneys' behavior when they self-select into the Office of the Public Guardian or solo practice which confound our measurements of the effects of the intervention. Random assignment mitigates this problem.
